Since 1986, Panos Institute has been supporting Haitian communities, amplifying their voices, and contributing to building sustainable solutions for the country’s major social, health, and humanitarian challenges. Forty years later, our commitment remains intact, but our vision continues to evolve alongside the realities of Haiti.
June 29, 1986, marked the beginning of an institutional journey founded on a simple conviction: a better-informed, better-listened-to, and more involved society is better prepared to act for its own development.
Over the decades, Panos Institute has developed recognized expertise in social communication and community mobilization. This experience has gradually led us to expand our interventions into several areas essential to human development: public health, social and behavioral change, gender equality, children’s rights, the environment, climate change, and humanitarian action.
An Organization Evolving with the Country’s Needs
Haiti is currently going through a period marked by multiple challenges: economic vulnerability, health crises, population displacements, climate change, insecurity, difficulty accessing essential services, and the growing spread of false information.
Faced with these realities, our role cannot be limited to simply transmitting messages.
We must also listen, inform, mobilize, connect populations to available services, and build the capacity of communities to participate in decisions that affect their future.
It is this vision that guides the evolution of Panos Institute today.
Our experience in awareness campaigns, HIV prevention, community health, media collaboration, support and referral mechanisms, as well as communication for social change, illustrates this determination to bring information, services, and communities closer together.
Communication as a Driving Force for Change
Since its inception, Panos Institute has viewed communication not merely as a visibility effort, but as a genuine tool for social transformation.
Informing can prevent.
Listening can reveal needs that were previously invisible.
Creating dialogue can combat prejudices.
Mobilizing a community can help save lives.
This philosophy will continue to guide our programs and partnerships.
In particular, we want to strengthen the use of media, digital technologies, community platforms, and accessible communication tools to enable more people, including the most vulnerable, to access reliable information and services tailored to their needs.
Forty Years of Experience, but Above All a Vision for the Future
Celebrating forty years of existence does not only mean looking back at the path traveled.
It is also an opportunity to ask ourselves: what kind of Panos Institute do we want to build for the coming decades?
We want an organization that is even closer to communities.
An organization capable of innovating.
An organization that builds strong partnerships with public institutions, civil society organizations, media, healthcare professionals, humanitarian actors, youth, women, community organizations, and technical and financial partners.
We also want to better document our impact, share the knowledge produced on the ground, and make our digital platforms spaces where everyone can discover, understand, and participate in our actions.
A New Website for a New Stage
The transformation of our digital presence is part of this dynamic.
Our new website is not simply a new institutional showcase. It aims to progressively become a hub for information, resources, awareness, and connection with our programs and communities.
You will be able to discover our projects, campaigns, publications, resources, activities, and the stories of those who contribute every day to change on the ground.
This new space will also make it easier to share the results achieved with our partners and provide the public with useful content on issues directly affecting the Haitian population.
Together, Let’s Strengthen Communities
After forty years, one core conviction remains at the heart of our mission: the most sustainable transformations are those built with communities and not simply for them.
Every partnership created, every better-informed individual, every referral to a service, every trained professional, every awareness campaign, and every mobilized community represents a contribution to this vision.
Panos Institute will therefore continue to listen, inform, mobilize, and act.
With the same determination that has driven it since 1986.
With new tools.
With new partnerships.
And above all, with the conviction that despite the challenges, it remains possible to build a more inclusive, resilient, and supportive future.
Together, let’s strengthen communities.
